Art of Healing 

The MSU Center for Survivors is excited to host the Art of Healing, an event offering space for students, staff, faculty and community survivors of sexual and relationship violence to express their healing through art. The Art of Healing event is held each spring semester to showcase survivors artwork.

Spring 2026 Call for Submissions: Survivors of sexual assault and relationship violence are invited to submit creations that represent their healing, including art, photos, music, poetry, written work, dances, etc. Click here to submit your submission to the Art of Healing. Submission deadline: Friday, April 3, 2026. 

Get Involved in Healing through the Arts: Additionally, the Center for Survivors offers several groups & workshops to support survivors to utilize the arts in their healing. Below are the Spring 2026 Art of Healing workshops.

Art of Healing Frequently Asked Questions

The MSU Center for Survivors is excited to host the Art of Healing, an event offering space for students, staff, faculty and community survivors of sexual and relationship violence to express their healing through art. The Art of Healing will be help in April 2026.

Survivors can participate in Center for Survivors opportunities in the spring (art workshops, dance group, writing workshops, etc) or can submit on their own artwork.

 

Any survivor of sexual and relationship violence who is a current MSU student, staff, faculty, or community member receiving services from the Center for Survivors is welcome to submit their original artwork.

Survivors can submit any of their original artwork, including art, photos, music, poetry, written work, dances, etc. When submitting their materials, survivors can select their piece to be part of a live or video performance section, gallery of visual arts, or the photo slideshow.

This event is only open to survivors and their supporters. Also, when submitting materials, survivors can submit anonymously, with an alias, or with their full or partial name. Pronouns are also optional. Survivors submitting written work can select to have their piece read by a Center for Survivors staff member or volunteer.

No, this event celebrates survivors of all backgrounds who are using creative ways to heal.

Art of Healing Groups & Workshops

Tuesdays, 1:30-3pm | 1/27-4/7

Drop in to make crafts and connect with others! Held at the Center for Survivors in 207A Student Services Building. Open to all adult survivors and co-survivors. No experience is necessary and supplies are provided! Projects, dates and, times are listed below.

Weaving Circles

  • Wednesday 1/21, 3-4:30pm
  • Learn how to weave your own piece of art.

Paint in Motion

  • Thursday 2/12, 4-5pm
  • Express yourself through movement and art! Using dance to guide a paint-covered marble, create a unique piece that reflects your energy and healing.

The Stitching Hour (Embroidery)

  • Monday 3/9, 1-2:30pm
  • Learn embroidery stitches, try new patterns, or help contribute to a group embroidery piece. Guided and self-guided embroidery options. All skill levels welcome.

Wordplay - Poetry, Prose, & Empowerment

Wednesdays, 2-4:30pm | Weekly- 2/11-4/8 

  • A weekly workshop to promote healing through the art of writing.
